RC Action!!! OTW

I recently purchased a couple of used RC18t 1/18 scale racing buggies to have a little fun around the yard. Not to shortly afterwards (approxiamately an hour or so), I came up with the genius idea to combine my hatred of yard work with the new hobby. Even quicker, I determined there was no better way to do this than destroying have the backyard and turn it into an 1/18 scale RC TRACK.

Such great ideas often come without much forethought, and after a couple of weeks of round up, many attempts to kill the grass with the mower and realizing that digging up 1600 sq ft of yard is much harder at 41 than 21, I started to get discouraged. I was determined I had to rethink this. I had to regroup and ask myself one of the unbendable rules of life.

How would a Polk County Redneck do this...? I had to check the list..

1) Goats!!!!! No goats

2) drunk couzin's Nope...out of state

3) Illegal fireworks from cross state lines? Would take to long

4) Burn it with used motor oil and old tires from my Pimped out ATV QUAD!!! It's in the shop...

Ah...I know...

5) 'Borrow' a wooden pallet, hammer a bunch of ol' nails through it and drag it through the yard with a riding lawnmower.

JACKPOT!!!

Ok so, I completed the test build of the rig, tied a rope....and the damn lawnmower tire was flat. So in true redneck fashion, I tied it around my waste and dragged the $#&%@!!! I quickly determined three things. The idea was genius... I'm still 41... I need a tire pump...That said, I got to make a few passes with very acceptable results. A few extra nails, a tire pump and a sunny day and I'm good to go.... Oh and some Budwizer!

Pics below of rig and first results...

POTD - August 16, 2009

I'm failing horribly at the POTD idea. :)

I may rename it Bi-monthly Pic of the Month (BMPOTM).

The BMPOTM is a Kodak Bantam Special - circa 1939. A friend recently brought over a camera his father bought pre-WWII. February 4, 1939 to be exact, for a whopping $90.13. The original receipt and all the paperwork are still in the original box!

Seeing this is a weak attempt at a blog about photography... I thought it would make a good subject.

The Kodak Bantam is a folding camera using Kodak's 828 film format (35mm film with only 1 perforation per image). It was a very compact camera, designed by the famous Walter Dorwin Teague. The basic model had a 1:12.5 Doublet lens and a single speed shutter. It appeared in 1935, together with another model that had a 1:6.3 lens and a rigid finder. Most Bantams were strut folders, but the F.8 model of 1938 had a rectangular pull-out lens tube instead. The luxurious Bantam Special was launched in 1936.

POTD - August 04, '09

So far the pic of the day has been more like a pic of the month. However, as I was heading out to a game of tennis I found this guy who wouldn't leave the hood of my wife's car. He actually seemed very interested in the len of my camera and would actually approach it as I closed in on him. If I wiggled my finger, he would cock his head and seemed to make eye contact. I was no more than 3 inches from him most of the time.

I spent about 5 minutes and snapped about two dozen shots. All were handheld and the DOF was so shallow most were either blurry or out of focus. I fortunately found two shots that were usable. The higher shutter speed is what saved this shot.

Shot at 1/200 at f2.8, iso 400

BTW - The Brown Anole, Anolis sagrei (or Norops sagrei) is an invasive species not native to Florida or the US. <---- Stupid Florida Fact. Oh, and this one is a female (DO NOT ask me how i know that).

If you have now learned something new....go home for the day!

POTD

I've seen a few photographers post a Pic Of The Day on their home sites. It seems like a good idea to start looking for at least one item of interest out and about each day. I'm not sure yet how successful (or interesting) this will be....but here we go.

I'm going to cheat on day one and share a pic of something easy enough to capture.

Enjoy!?

Here's the Gallery.

Casual Portraits - Gavin & Delaney

With a small amount of bribery I was able to to get some cooperation from the local natives. Thank you Dairy Queen.
Enjoy the pics and let me know what you think.

Welcome

This is a test to see if I can bring a blog and my Pic Site together. I'm hoping to use the site for sharing information I find useful as well as a place where comments, discussion and suggestions can be posted.
